Letter to the editor

I’d like to take a moment to address the latest mass shootings. My prayers and thoughts are with those affected by these tragedies. Now I’d like to address our so-called elected officials.

Shame on you. Get your collective heads out of the sand and get your hands out of the N.R.A.’s cookie jar. It is a shame that the N.R.A. is bribing you. They pay you for your vote and they buy your influence. I said it - stop accepting bribes from the N.R.A. It is beyond time to put country before money. These shootings are so commonplace, I feel we’ve become cynical and jaded to it all. Yes prayers help, but we need action. This is terrorism on our own soil. Ninety-two percent of Americans support at least background checks. Yet these politicians take money and do nothing. Think about that. We have become the Divided States of America. What in God’s name has to happen before these politicians take action?

And last, but certainly not least, to the current occupant in the White House, try this – defy your base, grow a backbone and stop with your racist, xenophobic rhetoric.
