Letter to the editor 2

I am very upset about Kmart closing. That being said: I am very concerned about the Signal Hill Mall/J.R. Cigar area and the Kmart area. I have only been living here for 11 years and have talked with people who have lived here all their lives. They have told me about how the mall and those areas were thriving at one time.

All the buildings in these areas are run down and mostly unused except for the Food Lion and the few stores at the mall and J.R. areas.

What is going to be done about this? What is going to happen to these areas?

There has been so much emphasis on downtown and now I have read about exit 45 on Interstate 77. Why put so much money and attention to other places? I I'm sure others would really hate to see the Signal Hill Mall areas go to ruin.

There is enough space on all the land that so much could be done there.

An open air mall: bring back all the cool stores, a big book store, a Chick-fil-a, a skate board park, a park that kids can play with a fountain and stream they can frolic in during the summer months, a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe's, a Vitamin Shoppe. There are SO many possibilities.

Why can't we make our town the place where everyone wants to come to shop?

With our beautiful down town and all of its shops it’s just icing on the cake. One more reason to bring people to our town.

I truly hope that there are many more Statesville citizens who feel the way I do about our town.
