Letter to the editor

This is a quote from politician and Christian minister Mike Huckabee: “Trump reminds me of a doctor with no bedside manner. He tells you that you need to lose 100 pounds and stop smoking. You are offended; you are angry. You come up with 10 reasons why he’s crazy. … and then you finally realize he is the only one telling you the truth.”

President Trump has endured 2 ½ years of the opposition trying to force him out of office. Those in opposition refused to approve the amount he asked for the wall on our southern border, but spent a greater amount on the impeachment nonsense. The overwhelming amount of illegal immigrants who came here and are still entering illegally have gone past our ability to help them. They may be worse off than they would have been if they had stayed in their own country. This is what the President wanted to avoid. Even so, our President has done a good job in spite of the negative efforts on the part of those who disagreed with him. He is trying to correct some of the errors of our former president – illegal immigration, the trend toward socialism, bad healthcare and bad decisions with regard to trade with foreign countries.

We are a capitalist country! With capitalism there must be a work ethic. Anyone who is able-bodied and of sound mind needs to work. With this work comes a satisfaction and freedom of choice that one can never have with socialism. Of course there are those that are truly disabled should receive help from the government, also children. Those citizens who are retired already recent the return on monies they paid in with every paycheck. Everyone else needs to work for their money. Because of the many changes to some rules the President made and advances in pay, we have many more jobs available.

I have heard that “there is no such thing as a free meal.” Well that is true. There also is no such thing as free healthcare for all. Money has to come from somewhere to pay for it. The government has no money of its own. All of government money comes from taxpayers. If we go to the socialist kind of healthcare, the tax we pay to the government will increase significantly to pay for all medical care. President Trump is trying to get a fair program in place for healthcare instead of the so-called free care. He is also negotiating with China to make our trade with them more even. It has evidently been one-sided for decades.

Folks, this is the President we need right now. He is trying to go back to the Constitution and the rule of law to help us get back to the way this nation was set up. He is a wealthy person and is not trying to increase his wealth the way former president and the Clintons did. President Trump gives his whole salary to charity. He may not be as smooth a speaker as others, but he is smart and knows how the world works. His heart is in the right place and he does actually love this country.
