Letters to editor generic.jpg

Here we go again.

I was just listening to the news and found New York and Chicago are planning to legalize marijuana to pay for stuff in their state.

They taxed gas to pay for the roads; taxed food to pay for the poor; taxed alcohol to take care of those addicted; taxed phone and internet to pay for free phones; taxed property to take care of police, fire departments, schools and city and state offices; formed the lottery to pay for the school shortfall and tolls to pay for highway improvements.

They tax, tax, tax and are lax, lax, lax.

Tell us how you are spending these special taxes and maybe we will feel a little better about those new and exciting ways you are going to take our money.

Where are the checks and balances? If I budget for electricity and go over what I have set aside I have to look at why and see if there is a way to bring it back into control, I don't just put the over-budget amount on a credit card and pay interest. That is what our government organization has been doing for far too long.

I know that the world has changed a lot over my 78 years. I know what it is like to be homeless and getting a hand up and help in my senior years. I thank all of you who have helped me with your tax dollars that you pay in good faith that it will be used for what it was intended. I also want to thank those volunteers who helped me back on my feet.
