Effort put Troutman on right path

The investment of time, treasure and talent in order to adjust Troutman's future land-use plan presented and adopted at Thursday’s Town Council meeting was worth making.

Stantec, along with town staff members, provided many different opportunities and methods for the community to participate fully, and the results are a future plan we can be proud of. By combining the input and vision of many throughout the community with professional planning principles, our town now has a guide to direct the future growth of our great small town.

I am very thankful to have been a small part of it, and look forward to smart and intentional growth along with the preservation of what makes Troutman so very special – our rural flavor!

A big thank you to Scott, Dylan and Walter at Stantec; Planning Director Erika Martin; the steering committee; and everyone who participated along the way!

The year 2018 has had its challenges, I look forward to 2019 and see good things on the horizon.

Refocus on meaning of Christmas

What is Christmas all about?

Well, it’s about giving. Just ask any kid, and check out all the advertisements designed to capture out attention and our dollars. I believe that the giving that is expressed in Christmas is best summed up in the well-known Scripture: “For God so loved the world that He gave … .” Christmas is about God’s gift!

Adam and Eve alienated themselves from Him through sin, and all of mankind is in that same spiritual condition today. But, God loved us so much that He gave – the eternal Son of God was born of a virgin (incarnation), so that after a perfect and sinless life, He would go to a cross and pay the penalty (death) for our sins in order that we (whosoever) might have eternal life (the gift), by placing our trust (belief) in Jesus and what He did for us on the cross.

After three days He bodily arose from the dead, and later ascended into heaven. Christ didn’t come just to be a baby in a manger, live a good life and teach us about morality, but to give His life as a ransom (payment) for our sin.

It’s not the purpose of this note to belittle our beloved traditions, but just to help us refocus on the true meaning of Christmas.

God will make America great

United we stand; divided we will definitely fall. It is more than obvious that our country is divided. Donald Trump was not supposed to be our president because one side had “a better plan.” God rejected that plan. President Trump and his administration are doing their level best to make America a better place for EVERYONE, yet half the country seems to not like anything he does or is doing, good or not. We are all in the same boat, a boat that is slowly sinking. And while many are working hard to bail the water out, the other half continues poking more holes into this boat, seemingly without regard for anything other than their own agenda. Those same people also keep trying to make wrong right and right wrong. To those who have lost the ability to determine right from wrong, you need only to pick up the Holy Bible and read it. We can stop our nation from sinking, but only if we can cast aside personal differences and work together for the common good. The last and most important detail – if we don’t begin bringing God back into every facet of activity in our country, our human efforts will be totally wasted. We cannot make America great again without God’s help, and without putting God first.
