Who: UNCG (1-0) at No. 23 LSU (1-0).
When: 8 p.m. EST Friday.
Where: Pete Maravich Assembly Center, Baton Rouge, La.
The game: Coming off its 27-8 season from a year ago, the Spartans have beefed up their non-conference schedule and go on the road to play a young, talented, ranked LSU team. The Tigers, under first-year coach Will Wade (who coached in the Southern Conference at Chattanooga from 2013-15), have just two seniors on the roster and five freshmen, led by 6-foot-10 Naz Reid, who scored 17 points in Tuesday’s 94-63 win over Southeastern Louisiana, and 6-6 Emmitt Williams, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds in his debut. UNCG is coming off a 74-66 victory over cross-town rival N.C. A&T.
Keep an eye on: UNCG senior Francis Alonso scored 23 points in the win at A&T, but he shot just 2-for-7 from the three-point line and the Spartans were 3-for-17. Defense will keep UNCG in games, but the Spartans will need to shoot better from the arc to beat an SEC opponent. … Alonso is just the sixth SoCon player with 300 career three-pointers. He needs 10 more to pass Scott Hartzell for the most at UNCG.
