A fire early Saturday morning destroyed Affordable Towing on Turnersburg Highway.
Around 6 a.m. Saturday, Ebenezer Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Matt McAlpin said that firefighters responded to a fully involved fire in the 1100 block of Turnersburg Highway. Assistant Iredell County Fire Marshal Josh Levan said the fire took more than an hour to control, and roughly 50 firefighters were at the scene.
McAlpin added that heavy machinery was also called in once the fire was contained to assist with controlling any fires in the interior.
Levan said the fire appears to have started high in the office area. Three vehicles inside the facility were completely destroyed, and he said five to six vehicles outside the building suffered damage.
Levan estimated the items destroyed in the fire to be valued at around $100,000. He added that property tax records show the value of the 3,200 square-foot building at $225,000.
Both Levan and McAlpin said the building was a total loss.
On Wednesday, Levan said that the investigation is currently ongoing, but the fire doesn’t appear to have been intentionally set. He added he is working with a private investigator hired by Affordable Towing’s insurance company. He also said it’s not unusual for companies to hire a private investigator following significant damages.
Levan did not provide a timeline for the investigation.
