A Statesville resident has been arrested following an assault that occurred in Pennsylvania more than two months ago, documents indicated.
On Oct. 25, Bernard Samuel Lewis, 36, of Brevard Street, was charged as a fugitive from justice. He is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center without bond.
Documents filed by the Scranton Police Department indicated he was evading two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person.
Scranton Detective Jeff Gilroy described the incident in a report:
Around 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 17, a man and woman were awakened by a loud banging downstairs.
The woman went downstairs and found Lewis entering the house through a window.
Lewis saw her, began to yell at her while throwing items at her and breaking the television.
The man yelled, asking the woman if she OK, and Lewis became angrier and punched the woman on the left side of her head.
When the man came downstairs, Lewis stabbed him in the chest with scissors before fleeing the home.
Gilroy’s report stated the man suffered a stab wound to the chest.
Documents show the Scranton Police Department alerted the Statesville Police Department of the incident Oct. 25 and warrants were filed the same day as his arrest.
Lewis is scheduled to appear in Iredell County District Court Nov. 27.
The Statesville Record & Landmark does not identify victims of assault without their consent.
