Iredell County Solid Waste announced Friday that the scale at the Mooresville Transfer Station will close at noon Friday, due to required scale repairs.

The facility, at 158 Macleod Drive in Mooresville, will be open for homeowner waste and recyclables disposal only between noon and 6:30 p.m.

“The scale has been in operation since 1998 and has experienced routine wear and tear expected in a high-volume environment,” David Lambert, director of Iredell County Solid Waste, stated in a news release. “The scale needs extensive repairs made to prevent more serious repairs in the future.”

Commercial customers can utilize the Iredell County Landfill at 354 Twin Oaks Road in Statesville, which is open until 4 p.m.

“Friday is historically the slowest day of the week; we have elected to make repairs then in (an) effort to limit the impact to our customers,” Lambert said.

Homeowners with chargeable loads can still utilize the Mooresville facility; however; fees will be assessed at $8 for a half load and $16 for a full load at the staff’s discretion. Rates will not be prorated by weight; cash only for payment.

The facility is expected to reopen for regular business Saturday at 7 a.m.
